Galway is 208 kilometres from Dublin Airport and one of the easiest runs we do — the M6 goes practically the whole way, and two hours twenty is realistic outside rush hour.
It is also one of the most booked, because Galway is where a great many Irish itineraries actually begin. Land at Dublin, transfer west, then work outwards to Connemara, the Aran Islands, the Burren and Clare.
Door to door, not station to station
There is a perfectly good coach service on this corridor. What it does not do is collect you from arrivals with your name on a board, put four suitcases in the boot for you, and stop outside your Airbnb on a one-way street in the Latin Quarter at eleven at night. That gap is the entire reason this route exists for us.
Onward from Galway
- Connemara — Clifden, the Sky Road, Kylemore Abbey: a full day, and one of the great drives in Europe
- Aran Islands — ferry from Rossaveel, 40 minutes from the city
- Cliffs of Moher and the Burren — an hour and a half south
- Ashford Castle and Cong — 50 minutes north
