Ashford Castle stands at Cong, on the Mayo–Galway border where Lough Corrib narrows. It is 245 kilometres from Dublin Airport — a shade under three hours, most of it on the M6 to Galway before turning north through Headford.
The last stretch is the good part. Stone walls, low hills, the water appearing and disappearing on your left. Guests who booked a hire car often tell us afterwards they wished they hadn't; the roads west of Headford are narrow, unfamiliar and, in November, dark by half four.
Arriving in style
The castle's own approach runs nearly a kilometre through mature woodland before the building appears. We drive it slowly. It is one of the genuinely great arrivals in Irish hospitality and it deserves more than thirty seconds.
Combining Ashford with Connemara
A great many of our Ashford guests are on a wider western itinerary — Kylemore Abbey, Clifden, the Sky Road, Killary Harbour. If you want the transfer to double as a scenic route rather than a straight run, we can route you through Connemara and treat the day as a private tour with a drop-off at the castle. Ask for that on the quote form and we will price it separately.
What the fare covers
€540 for up to 3 passengers, €590 for up to 7, and that is the price whatever the traffic does. Tolls, airport car parking, flight tracking and an hour of complimentary waiting are all in. Child seats are free on request — please just tell us the ages so we bring the right ones.
